World Scout Jamboree - 2019

Home > International

The 24th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) will take place between 22nd July and 2nd August 2019 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA in 2019.

The WSJ is an huge Scouting event that happens every four years, where over 35,000 Scouts from across the world come together to camp for approx.10 days. A WSJ involves lots of activities and meeting fellow Scouts from around the world. The organisers; America, Mexico and Canada, want it to be the biggest and best WSJ to date – it is sure to be epic!

The WSJ is known worldwide in Scouting, and is seen as a great honour to be able to attend. The theme is, Unlock a New World, which invites you to unlock new adventures, new cultures, and new friendships.

Participants must be born between 22 July 2001 and 21 July 2005. There will be absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

The cost is still to be confirmed, but it will likely be over £3000+ (but lots of fundraising can reduce this somewhat). There are a limited number of places open to GLSE so selection is necessary.

Further details regarding participant selection will be sent out later this year, so keep an eye out, but we expect it to take place in October or November 2017.

We have been informed that as a County we have been given four patrols. This equates to 36 Young People and 4 leaders.

The selection process for the Unit Leadership Team can now begin, and we have set a deadline of Friday 26th May to receive all applications. If you are interested in applying to be part of the Unit Leadership Team then please email to receive an application pack.

We hope to have a Unit Leadership team in place before the Summer, so that they can then promote the Jamboree ahead of participant selection in October / November this year.

We have produced a Person Specification and Role Descriptions to will allow leaders in GLSE to consider whether they are interested in applying to be part of the Unit Leadership team.
